Five tips for an Ecofriendly Thanksgiving in Dubai

Thanksgivings day is celebrated in the United States and Canada, on the 4th Thursday of November, as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. No matter where we are, Thanksgiving is a moment to spend with family and friends, while thinking about giving back to all those who have been there for us, family, friends and our community.

Here are some tips for making Thanksgiving in Dubai a green day:

  1. The 3Rs: Reduce, reuse, recycle – when you go shopping for your Thanksgiving dinner, remember to bring with you some empty canvas bags or even some of the plastic bags that you already have at home.
  2. Buy and eat locally grown food – buying local has many benefits – fresher, tastier food that helps the local economy and reduces the carbon footprint.
  3. Make your meal organic – avoid hormones, pesticides and other harmful chemicals. We know that organic food is generally more expensive, but you can focus on buying only certain food, like beef, chicken, eggs, leafy greens, berries and apples, which are the products that are most heavily treated with pesticides.
  4. Use biodegradable plates & glasses – With many guests and a lot of dishes waiting for you after dinner, you might be tempted to buy plastic glasses and cups – make this Thanksgiving a green one by saving water and using biodegradable plates & glasses that help you reduce waste and help the environment. You can find them here, on the Gecostore.
  5. Say Thank you – make this a time to be grateful to the ones that matter most to you, and a moment to spend with your family and friends.
